AC Milan want Argentine coach to replace Pioli
AC Milan have identified the highly successful Argentine coach as the possible successor of under-fire Stefano Pioli.
AC Milan are going through a very difficult moment. The Rossoneri suffered defeats against Inter, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain and lately threw away a two-goal lead against Napoli even risking to lose the match at the end. A series of negative results that could see AC Milan exit the group stage of the Champions League and have also put Stefano Pioli under fire.
So far the management is supporting Pioli to turn things around. However, progressing to the knock out out stage of the Champions League is hugely important and an earlier exit would indeed put the Italian coach at serious risk of getting sacked. La Repubblica reports that Stefano Pioli will be automatically fired if he fails to progress in the Champions League regardless of what AC Milan’s position will be in Serie A.
Success in the European stage is imperative for Gerry Cardinale for sportive and financial aspects. Having failed to score a goal in the last five Champions League matches is a strain for the Rossoneri. AC Milan are already evaluating their options and according to the Italian newspaper have identified Marcelo Gallardo as the possible successor of Stefano Pioli.
Marcelo Gallardo, a former attacking midfielder, had a highly successful career in charge of River Plate. The 47-year-old Argentine coach won every possible trophy with River Plate including the Copa Libertadores on two occasions. Gallardo was honored for his achievements with an eight-meter statue of him outside River’s Monumental stadium.
The Argentine coach gained praise for the attacking football displayed by River Plate. Gallardo has taken a break from coaching since 2022 and soon take control of a European club. He was offered the Marseille job during the summer but Gallardo declined the proposal. Igor Tudor is another name mentioned as possible replacement for Pioli but only as temporary until the end of the season.
